APPG

on Boxing

The All Party Parliamentary Group on Boxing

On Tuesday 25th April we attended the APPG Boxing meeting focusing on crime reduction and social inclusion. The meeting, chaired by Chris Evans MP, focused on positive examples of how boxing helps young people in deprived communities affected by crime, violence and social exclusion. The main panel consisted of:

  • Dr Rosena Allin-Khan - Shadow Sports Minister

  • Dr Deborah Jump - Senior Lecturer in Criminology

  • Alex Levey - Centre for Social Justice

  • Anna Cain - Principal

The meeting opened with a short talk from Angela Gault, Head of Operations and Development at Boxing Futures, followed by Martin Bisp the Founder of Empire Fighting Chance. Both focused on the impact that their provisions have had on the individuals that attend as well as the wider community.

The meeting was well attended by a variety of organisations and provided us with an opportunity to begin building partnerships that will enable Queensberry AP to develop further and we are looking forward to attending future meetings.
